Enviro-Log Fire Logs

ENVIRO-LOG FIRELOGS NOW AVAILABLE AT SELECT SHAW'S LOCATIONS

Shaw's Will Also Participate in Enviro-Log's Waxed Cardboard "Closed Loop" Recycling Program

ATLANTA, Ga. – (February 17, 2012) – Enviro-Log, Inc. is pleased to announce that Shaw's® Supermarkets, Inc., part of the nationwide SUPERVALU® family of grocery stores, will be selling its earth-friendly Enviro-Log® Firelogs at select retail locations throughout the northeast. Shaw's will also participate in Enviro-Log's Waxed Cardboard "Closed Loop" recycling program to reduce its environmental impact.

"Shaw's partnership with Enviro-Log in our stores not only offers our customers a cleaner and more efficient alternative to firewood, but represents a key component in our commitment to environmental sustainability," said Mike Stigers, president, Shaw's. "By working with Enviro-Log we are able to divert waste from landfills and further reduce our impact on the environment."

"We are very excited to offer Shaw's customers a greener and cleaner burning alternative to firewood," said Ross McRoy, president of Enviro-Log, Inc. "Not only are Enviro-Log Firelogs made of 100 percent recycled materials, they also offer less emissions while producing more heat per pound, which is a compelling value proposition for any consumer interested in reducing their environmental impact."

Sam Miller, Enviro-Log's vice president of recycling, added, "We applaud Shaw's for partnering with us to divert more of its waste from landfills. Each day approximately 1.5 million used waxed cardboard boxes are added to landfills, contributing approximately 600,000 tons of waste annually. Compounding the problem, waxed cardboard can take up to 50 years to disintegrate. As a participant in Enviro-Log's Closed Loop recycling program, Shaw's will divert its old waxed cardboard containers to our manufacturing facility in Fitzgerald, Ga. where we will use the raw material to create our earth-friendly firelogs. The final product will then be returned to Shaw's and put on the shelves to be sold at select locations. This process is referred to as a 'closed loop,' in the recycling industry."

GET READY FOR WINTER’S WORST WITH TIPS FROM ENVIRO-LOG

Earth-friendly firelog manufacturer offers tips to prepare your family, home and car for winter

ATLANTA – December 15, 2011 – Enviro-Log®, Inc., an eco-friendly, consumer products and recycling company, wants to ensure you take safety precautions to prepare your family, home and car for the worst winter has to offer.  In addition to chilly conditions outdoors, power outages during cold weather can cause the temperature inside your house to drop rapidly.  According to the National Weather Service (NWS), there were 34 extreme cold deaths in 2010.

“The snowstorm that hit the East Coast in late October left millions of customers without power for days, which is why we encourage every household to have an emergency kit,” said Ross McRoy, president of Enviro-Log.  “The basic home emergency kit should include:  one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food, a radio, flashlight, extra batteries, matches or lighter, first aid kit, moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation, cell phone with a portable or solar charger, and an alternate heat source such as firewood or firelogs.”

The Farmers’ Almanac is forecasting an unusually cold and stormy winter, predicting severe weather for the Northern Plains, parts of the Northern Rockies and the Western Great Lakes.  The Farmers’ Almanac also predicts that a very active storm track will bring much heavier-than-normal precipitation in the Northeast, along the Great Lakes, and from the Southern Plains through Tennessee into Ohio.

“We moved to a new place that came with a wood stove which is why we decided to try Enviro-Log Firelogs,” said J.C. Bell, an Enviro-Log customer in Pennsylvania.  “We liked that it was made from 100 percent recycled materials.  It only took one flick to light and burned for over 3 hours.  We have decided that this is the fuel source we will use from now on.”

Enviro-Log also recommends the following to prepare your family, home and car for cold weather:

•    Make a family emergency plan.  Everyone should know what to do during an emergency in case all family members are not together.  Pick a place to meet and make sure everyone knows the address of the location.  The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recommends that you program a family member as "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) in your phone.  If you are in an accident, emergency personnel will often check your ICE listings in order to get a hold of someone you know.

•    Winterize your home.  Insulate walls and attics, caulk and use weather-stripping on doors and windows, and cover windows with plastic.  Use insulation for exposed pipes and allow faucets to drip a little during cold weather to avoid freezing.  It is also important to learn how to shut off water valves (in case a pipe bursts).

•    Carry a survival kit in your vehicle.  According to the National Weather Service, about 70 percent of winter weather-related fatalities occur as a result of people stranded in automobiles.  You should store an emergency kit in your trunk stocked with the following items:  blankets/sleeping bags, cellular phone or two-way radio, windshield scraper, snow brush, flashlight with extra batteries, extra winter clothes, shovel, tow chain, matches, traction aids (bag of sand or cat litter), emergency flares, jumper cables, snacks, water, road maps and an alternative heat source such as firewood or firelogs.

ENVIRO-LOG EXPANDS RECYCLING PROGRAM TO HELP MORE RETAILERS REDUCE THEIR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

Largest waxed cardboard recycler in the U.S. has helped over 100 partners start on a path toward zero waste

ATLANTA, Ga. – November 21, 2011 – Enviro-Log®, Inc., an eco-friendly, consumer products and recycling company, is expanding its recycling program to help more retailers reduce their environmental impact and start on a path toward zero waste by recycling their waxed cardboard and establish a closed loop with Enviro-Log Firelogs. To date, Enviro-Log has worked with over 100 partners throughout North America and diverted over 150 million pounds of waxed cardboard from landfills.

Known for producing the greenest and most versatile firelogs on the market, Enviro-Log saves thousands of trees from use as firewood and millions of pounds of waxed cardboard from going into landfills every year. Enviro-Log uses 100 percent recycled waxed cardboard, typically used to transport fruits and vegetables to grocery stores and restaurants, to manufacture its earth-friendly firelogs that burn cleaner than wood (emitting 30 percent less greenhouse gasses, 80 percent less carbon dioxide and 86 percent less creosote) while also providing 50 percent more heat per pound.

According to Sam Miller, Enviro-Log’s vice president of recycling, approximately 1.5 million used waxed boxes are added to landfills each day, contributing approximately 600,000 tons of waste annually. Compounding the problem, waxed cardboard can also take up to 50 years to disintegrate in a landfill. Citing figures from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Miller added, “Every 10,000 tons of wax cardboard diverted from landfills is equal to (annually) 1,821 cars off the road, 29,277 barrels of oil saved, 181,033 trees saved and keeps 48,953 Mtons of C02 from entering the earth’s atmosphere. Clearly retailers can make a huge environmental impact by participating in our recycling program.”

As part of its partnership with retailers, old waxed cardboard containers (boxes) are diverted from the landfill and routed to Enviro-Log’s manufacturing facility in Fitzgerald, Georgia. Enviro-Log then takes the waxed cardboard and turns it into its earth-friendly firelogs. In many instances, the 100 percent recycled product is then returned to retailers and put on the shelves to be sold. This process is referred to in the recycling industry as a “closed loop.” Enviro-Log’s closed loop experience makes for a fast and easy program start allowing its retail partners to see immediate financial benefits.

Commenting on Enviro-Log’s recycling program for retailers, Ross McRoy, president of Enviro-Log, said, “Our recycling program offers a win-win for retailers. Not only are we helping retailers significantly reduce their waste removal costs and improve their environmental impact, Enviro-Log provides value-added services to help retailers improve their sustainability and reach their carbon foot print goals. By forming a closed-loop including diversion of waxed cardboard box recovery and in-turn selling Enviro-Log Firelogs, retailers can achieve more than a 50 percent reduction in green house gases instead of using landfill alternatives. Participating in this closed loop recycling program enables retailers to prove to consumers that they are serious about helping the environment, not just talking about it.”
